Crystal Care Guide
Crystals are natural materials with their own colors, textures, formations, and sensitivities. This Morvaris care guide explains how to handle, clean, store, and energetically cleanse your crystals so they can remain beautiful and meaningful in your home, collection, or daily ritual.
Handle Crystals with Care
Many crystals are durable enough for display and everyday use, but others can be soft, brittle, flaky, porous, or naturally fragile. Always place crystals on stable surfaces, avoid dropping them, and handle points, clusters, geodes, and delicate carvings gently.
Raw crystal clusters and geodes may shed tiny fragments during handling. This is normal for many natural formations, especially pieces with fine points, druzy surfaces, or matrix stone.
Keep Some Crystals Away from Water
Not every crystal is water safe. Some stones can dissolve, rust, lose polish, become dull, or break down when exposed to water. Avoid soaking soft or delicate minerals, including selenite, celestite, malachite, pyrite, halite, calcite, and many raw or porous stones.
If you are unsure whether a crystal can touch water, choose a dry cleaning method instead. A soft dry cloth or a small brush is often enough for dust and light surface care.
Be Careful with Sunlight
Prolonged direct sunlight can fade or change the color of some crystals. Amethyst, rose quartz, celestite, fluorite, citrine, smoky quartz, and other light-sensitive stones should be displayed away from strong, constant sun exposure.
Bright indirect light is usually safer for decorative display. If you want to place crystals near a window, rotate them occasionally and watch for color changes over time.
Cleaning Your Crystals
For most crystals, use a soft dry cloth to remove dust. For sturdier polished stones, you may use a slightly damp cloth, then dry the stone fully. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, perfumes, oils, and household cleaning sprays unless the product description clearly says the item can tolerate them.
- Use a dry microfiber cloth for polished stones and jewelry pieces
- Use a soft brush for clusters, geodes, carvings, and textured surfaces
- Dry any damp stone completely before storage or display
- Keep metal jewelry components away from moisture when possible
Energetic Cleansing Methods
Many people cleanse crystals energetically as part of a spiritual or mindfulness practice. Choose a method that feels right to you and is safe for the stone.
- Moonlight: Place crystals near a window or protected outdoor area overnight
- Sound: Use bells, singing bowls, chimes, or gentle sound vibration
- Smoke: Pass crystals through incense or herbal smoke in a ventilated space
- Selenite: Rest crystals near or on a dry selenite charging plate when appropriate
- Intention: Hold the crystal and set a clear personal intention for its use
Avoid water cleansing and salt cleansing unless you are certain the stone and any metal parts are compatible with those methods.
Storing Crystals and Jewelry
Store crystals separately when possible to prevent scratches, chips, and surface wear. Harder stones can scratch softer stones. Jewelry should be kept dry and stored away from perfumes, lotions, and moisture to help preserve metal finishes, cords, and settings.
Small stones, towers, bracelets, necklaces, and delicate carvings are best kept in a pouch, tray, jewelry box, or lined container when not in use.
Using Crystals in Decor
Crystals can be displayed on shelves, desks, nightstands, altar spaces, meditation corners, plant arrangements, and decorative bowls. For aquarium or terrarium use, only use stones that are appropriate for that environment, and rinse them carefully before placement. When in doubt, research the specific stone and the needs of the plants or animals involved.
A Note on Crystal Meanings
Crystal meanings are often based on traditional associations, personal practice, and spiritual interpretation. They can be a beautiful part of self-care and reflection, but they are not medical claims. Use crystals as supportive objects, not as replacements for professional advice or treatment.
